Benjamin Schuster

Dr. Benjamin Schuster
(1923-2012)

On Friday, August, 24, 2012, Dr. Benjamin Schuster passed away, but not before leaving his footprint in our hearts all over the community.  With his dearly departed wife, Marian, the Schusters made possible abundant advancements in the field of medicine and medical education, but they also gave the arts a home in Dayton. As part of the Classical 88.1 family, we thank them for the years of financial support as well as countless hours volunteering to make this station home to the best classical music in the world.

**It saddens me that one of WDPR's strongest advocates and supporters, Dr. Ben Schuster, passed away. Irrespective of our individual faiths we can take comfort that he is in a better place and without care. We're all better for having known him.

**What very sad news and though we have not been without warning, Ben is a person for whom the departure whenever would seem too soon. We, of course think of his generosity to the station and the community, but it is his gentle, caring spirit, sincerity, perspective and wisdom that I will keep with me.

**Dr. Schuster was such a kind man and I’ll always think of him fondly during station board meetings when he, Hank, and Burt would start wisecracking on each other like a couple of school boys, not something many people got to see. May he rest in peace.

Helena Shafer, Member Services Manager

**We have not only lost a lover of music but sadly we have also lost a truly kind and gentle man.

He was a great person in all respects. He was an extraordinary philanthropist, and a physician who shined alone not only in his medical treatment of patients but in his caring as well.. Throughout his life he had a constant desire to learn and share his knowledge with the rest of our medical community.

Ben greeted everyone with grace and humility because they were important in his eyes. He was a man who loved people almost as much as he loved his family. He always took time to listen to and care about other peoples problems and needs, no matter haw small they might be.

It is said that in your life, you meet only a few people that you will not forget. In my life, he is one of them.

Mike Jaffe, Past President
Board of Trustees/ Classical 88.1 WDPR

**The thing I remember about Ben was how much he enjoyed being on our board. When he came on the Board, Georgie and I told him that we were a group that got its work done and had a good time doing it.

Ben always said that he liked DPR so much because he had such fun serving a good cause. He was a serious man with a lighter side and that, I think, appealed to us all.

What a priviledge to have known this brilliant, kind and gentle man. What a benefit to have had him on our Board. What a loss the community will feel.

This is a man we will long remember.

Jim Goubeaux, Past President
Board of Trustees/ Classical 88.1 WDPR
